American V8 VS. Japanese Turbo

American V8 VS. Japanese Turbo

Thursday, October 8th, 2015

The whole domestic vs. import thing is a little played out here in the United States, but it’s still an interesting comparison. Today we have a drag race between a Honda Civic and a Corvette. This is a simple, straight-line drag race so this is definitely the Corvette’s territory. Does the Civic even stand a chance? The answer is yes. They are both said to be pushing somewhere around 700hp.

The Corvette has a supercharger on it to help make the big numbers. It’s also rear wheel drive, which is usually a pretty big advantage in a drag race compared to front wheel drive cars. However, this is a rolling start, so that is more or less negated. The Civic has one of Japan’s most impressive little engines, the K20. This inline-4 has also been equipped with a turbo running who knows how much boost to achieve its power.

We won’t spoil the ending for you, but we will tell you that it was very close. Just remember that regardless of your style, these are both very impressive machines. The community has come a long ways since the 1990s, with most clubs and organizations welcoming cars from every make and model. That being said… Let the trash talking begin.
